After the death of Iniobong Umoren, my DM was awash with cases of missing persons. I had about 12 cases. 11 females & a male. The oldest was 30, & the youngest was 13. I went into full scale Investigation/ tracking, without any form of financial support from the victims families.
I was scared, but was determined not to allow a repetition of Iniobong Umoren’s unfortunate incident. So i triggered a collaboration with some state
commands, to hasten up the search. I reached out to some commissioners of police, who were very supportive too.
To my greatest surprise, 4 out of the first 5 girls, that i investigated their disappearance, were traced to hotel rooms, & the houses of different men. They intentionally switched off their phones, because they were enjoying good times with their partners. Some were underaged.
They threw their families into confusion, who felt they were missing, hence raising alarm. The most pathetic, was that of a little girl, who left her parents home, because her mum scolded her. She went to her schoolmates house, to hide for just no reason. I was so disappointed.
After confirming that the only missing male, was a case of Kidnap, I stopped my search abruptly with the females. Their cases were all taking the same pattern. No need wasting scarce resources, that is even not available. No arrest was made, no one was detained, or charged.
Not even the couple who accommodated, that underaged girl, who absconded from home. I felt bad, disappointed and embarrassed. I wasted my time, money, even the time of the police. Please don’t bring any case of missing person to my DM again. Especially that of women
